A major river in Poland, the Vistula originates on the western slopes of the mountain Barania gora in the Carpathian Mountains in southern Poland.
The country"s only mountains are the Carpathian Mountains in the west, of which the highest is the Hora Hoverla at 2,061m, and those in the Crimean peninsula, in the extreme south along the coast.
Most of the country is a plain with no natural boundaries except the Carpathian Mountains in the south and the Oder and Neisse rivers in the west.
