In this case, a shortcut key is a good choice.
Up top, there's a button that brings you back to whatever activity you're doing (say, running), while another shortcut key whisks you into to the music app.
For a toolbar button, the shortcut key text appears in the ToolTip?, and only if you have selected the Show shortcut keys In ScreenTips box on the Options tab within the Customize dialog box.
